Matters Athletic.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY MATTERS
WHAT IS MATTERS ATHLETIC?
Matters Athletic is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing sports coaching, gym facilities, and academic support free of charge to our athletes – all of whom have been excluded from organized sports due to racial and economic barriers.
OUR mission
Matters Athletic aims to provide an opportunity to underserved youth through athletics, education, and social enrichment in Southeast San Diego.
OUR Goal
Providing equal opportunities for underprivileged athletes.
MORE OPPORTUNITIES.
To provide more opportunities for Southeast San Diego’s underserved community through excellent educational support, positive coaching on and off the pitch, and mentorship.
LOCAL BUSINESSES.
To give back to the Southeast San Diego community by introducing local businesses to community partners building awareness, support, and growth opportunities.
GROWTH EXPERIENCES.
To provide our youth the experiences of giving back to the community by involving them in charitable missions.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Matters Athletic has already been impacting the local Southeast community through after-school programs at Cesar Chavez Elementary, focusing on elementary children. Upon facility completion, Matters Athletic will provide a safe and enriching after-school environment focused on sports, mentorship, and education while parents are working.
“Dear Coaches, I didn't come here to crack jokes. I came here to have fun and learn soccer. I love those energy waffles. I love to play with my friends. Thank you, coaches."

PROPOSED gym & facilities
This will be achieved by
Building a new training facility in Southeast San Diego housing a playing pitch for soccer, a basketball gym, and a top-end clubhouse where kids can feel at home.
Having the resources to facilitate age-appropriate academic support through onsite tutors and mentors.
LASTING IMPACT
Every child who enters the Matters Athletic program will leave with an excellent work ethic, a strong support network, heightened racial awareness, employable skills, and the ability to recognize the potential within themselves.
